ABOUT DAVID KESTING
David Kesting [b. 1974, Florida] is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work reflects a keen interest in the tensions and vulnerabilities of human relationships. His works on paper, collage and paintings explore situations through the Fat Man, a character critical of others whose words appear as sarcastic remarks, disapproving comments or secret ad-vice. The Fat Man’s gestures and interactions with others reveal a subtle and complex relationship with a difficult world he must observe from afar.
Kesting’s work has been exhibited in New York, Miami and Chicago and is included in numerous private collections. He is also the co-founder of Leo Kesting Gallery and Capla Kesting Fine Art, both in New York. In 2006, Kesting launched the Fountain event in collaboration with several other Williamsburg, Brooklyn galleries. As an alternative to the traditional art fairs, Fountain presents an independent, DIY aesthetic and has been described by Artnet as “the place where you reminisce about the good old days, when you did it yourself, when inspiration and magic struck like a bolt from the blue.”
In April 2009, Kesting’s work was featured in a solo exhibition with Glowlab in New York.
